Ethanol
is obtained from corn starch. Crushed and fermented corn produces
ethanol, which is also used as a fuel.
Traditionally,
a horizontal decanter with a screw conveyor is used to separate the
solid part (biomass) from the broth.
During
the crushing phase, however, there is also a release of corn oil,
which can be separated from the water and suspended solids using a
vertical disc centrifuge.
