The search for more cost-effective oils for
engines has led to the use of cashew oil. This oil, which is
challenging to process, needs to be treated and purified from its
contaminants (about 1% water and suspended solid substances).
A decanter is used as the first stage of
separation to remove most of the solid components.
The liquid phase is then further purified using a
vertical disc separator, completing the purification process of the
oil. High temperatures during the process are desirable to improve
separation efficiency.
