As
the term itself suggests, bilge water accumulates at the bottom of a
ship and is often contaminated with oil, lubricants, fuels,
condensation liquids, black and gray water, and washing detergents.
This water becomes foul-smelling and rich in bacteria. Discharge of
this water into the sea is prohibited and must be treated
immediately.
The
oil percentage is often a few percentage points compared to the
water.
A
specific vertical disc centrifuge, which can also remain installed on
the ship, allows the separation of solids from water and surface oil.
No expensive centrifuge with particularly valuable materials is
needed.
